Yogyakarta has long been recognized as one of the most vital art centers in Southeast Asia and beyond. Its rich traditions, fertile creative climate, and diverse artist communities and independent exhibition spaces have made it a hub for art lovers and practitioners from around the world. Various art exhibitions and events regularly enliven the city, creating a unique cultural intersection where local traditions meet global contemporary practices. However, amidst this dynamic development, one crucial instrument remains necessary to maintain the sustainability of t he art ecosystem: an international art exhibition. Currently, Yogyakarta lacks a comprehensive platform that can effectively connect Indonesian artists with the global art market and bring international artists into contact with contemporary Southeast Asian art discourse.
Therefore, the Jogjakarta International Art Fair emerged as an initiative to fill this gap and create a new bridge. With the vision of building an inclusive and truly international art market, it welcomes artists from Indonesia and abroad, from young talents to established artists. The event aims to strengthen the local ecosystem while fostering meaningful cross-cultural exchange. We invite artists, galleries, and collectors from around the world to join us in Yogyakarta, where tradition and innovation meet. To realize this vision, we adopt four distinct curatorial approaches, ensuring each participant has a space suited to their career path, and that every visitor can experience the rich diversity of contemporary visual art across borders.
